Happy New Year!
We made it...January 1st, 2017.
I read something recently that likened the beginning of a New Year to the start of a 365 page book. I love that analogy.
Although I'm not big on New Year's resolutions, I am a big believer that we have the opportunity to resolve how our every day plays out. And every given year, gives us 365 chances to create a meaningful life story. A narrative of memories and melt downs, accomplishments and set backs, people and places and experiences that weave together our biography. An account of our life.
The past several years I've cared less about making a one time list of things I want to do or change in the coming year. Instead, I try and focus on setting and evaluating goals on a regular basis - not just at one point in time. One habit I've put into practice recently is to settle on a chosen word that best defines my focus for the coming year. In 2016, my word was "Intention".
In 2017, my word is "SIMPLIFY"
This year it's about focusing on things that bring me joy and decluttering my soul to make space for the activities and people that fill my bucket. Whatever falls outside of this, I aim to let it go.
"When we fritter away our one and only life doing things that don't really matter, we sacrifice the things that do." ~ Bill Hybels, Simplify
I would love to know how you intend on moving through this New Year. What will you be accountable for? What will your story say?
